3D Printing for the marine industry.
It's here.
We manufacture innovative products for the marine industry using leading 3D printing and shape optimisation technologies.
SO3D technologies was founded by Managing Technical Director, William Howden in 2012 with the sole purpose of introducing shape optimisation (SO) and additive manufacturing (3D printing) to the marine industry.
As a credible professional sailor as well as yacht designer and naval architect, Will believed that the marine industry offers an opportunity to explore how 3D printing and optimised finite analysis can transform how it thinks, creates, and produces small parts for boats or larger integral components.
case study
SO3D technologies and AMufacture partnered with world-leading marine hardware company Harken to design and manufacture new components for the Laser ARC rig to make it faster and lighter than the previous model. We collaborated with a carbon mast manufacturer, injection mould specialist, CNC, and investment cast company from our network, and directed the entire project from design to production.
3D Printing
3D printing, or additive manufacturing, to use the technical term; is simply the process of taking a three- dimensional solid object from a digital file and using an additive process, laying down successive layers of material to create the final object.
As the process is additive and not subtractive, it can create complex and detailed parts using less material and producing less waste.

New to 3D printing?
If you are new to 3D printing we suggest that you call us to chat through how 3d printing can help your development and supply chain operations and we will introduce you to a new on-demand manufacturing process.
3D printing on-demand enables you to revolutionise the way in which you prototype, deliver boat parts and in some cases manufacture medium-large production runs.
